Smart City Initiatives

A Smart City has over 29 different definitions and even more imagery associated with it. However, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has found 4 core themes of a Smart City:

  1. Society
  2. Economy
  3. Environment
  4. Governance

These themes comprise the essence of Wytec Cities definition of a Smart City. A Smart City is made from cutting edge technology and built on 5G capability, with benefits to its citizens, its local government, its economy, and is future proof. The LPN-16 meets all of these qualifications as it is a carrier neutral piece of technology that enables telecom carriers and cities to embrace 5G and beyond networks quickly and implement technology with huge benefits to both.

A Smart Building is a building that uses technology to offer cost savings to building owners and productivity amenities to tenants. A Smart Building generally can implement the Internet of Things (IoT) devices to track data and offer optimization insights to facility managers, while also offering tenants the most cutting edge technology to increase productivity and security.

>Smart Buildings can make up a Smart City but are not necessarily needed for a city to become Smart. Generally, once a Smart City has the network ready, it enables buildings to become Smart Buildings faster by using cellular enhancement to take advantage of 5G network to power their IoT devices. A Smart City will see more and more Smart Buildings appear which is a large incentive to companies, businesses, and citizens.
